Appointing a Successor in Legacy Planner

Legacy Planner must appoint a Successor who will be able to access their information after their death.

Legacy Planner is where you'll store all of your information and document your wishes. In order for your executor to use that information later on, you must add them as a Successor in your Cadence account.

What is a Successor?

Your Successor should typically be the person you've designated as the executor of your estate, though you're able to add anyone you want. You can add multiple Successors and choose how much information they can see about you.

When the time comes, your Successor will transition Legacy Planner to Executor Assistant, our estate settlement tool. We'll provide them with guidance through every step, and the work you've done will show up in their account, allowing them to instantly make notifications and download forms.

How to add a Successor

  1. Navigate to the Successors & Collaborators tab, then press + Invite a Successor.

  2. The Successor will receive an email asking them to accept or decline the invitation

  3. When they accept the invitation, they'll receive their own account where they can request the transition of your information when the time comes.

What does the Successor have access to?

You can choose what your Successor can see. You can give them access to only a few pieces of information, or allow them access to help you in your account.

After the account is transitioned to the Successor, they will have full access to all information.
