Users of the Legacy Planner can appoint a Successor to take ownership of their Estate in the event of their death.

What is a Successor?

The Successor is typically the person you've designated as the Executor of your estate, and will need accesses to all of your planning details entered into the Legacy Planner after your death. This provides them with the information needed to easily and thoroughly settle your estate in a timely manner.

Your Successor will have access to your Funeral Wishes and Will data as soon as they are designated, and they can request full account ownership only after a Funeral Director's certificate of death is provided.

Adding a Successor

To set your Successor, please do the following in your account:

  1. Navigate to the Contacts section, scroll to the bottom, then click "+ Invite a Successor".

  2. The Successor will receive an email

  3. Options to accept or decline

  4. Emails for each option

What does the Successor have access to?

Your Successor will have access to your Funeral Wishes and Will data as soon as they are designated, and they can request full account ownership only after a Funeral Director's certificate of death is provided.

Administering the Estate:
Requesting ownership of a Legacy Planner account

In the event of the your death, the Successor can request the Legacy Planner details be fully transferred to them, so they can then use the Executor Assistant to settle the estate.

A funeral director's certificate of death will be required to proceed with the transfer, and our Cadence Advisors will work with the Successor to approve the request.

After the Estate is transitioned to the Successor, the Successor will be able to access the Executor Assistant for the Estate.
